What did you do today?

The sun is shining, the broken water mains are flowing and irrigating the hay, so make some of that hay while the sun shines.

Not what you wanted to hear, was it?

I was leaning towards that but I broke the main so I got to pay to fix it as well.

Worked on server issues all morning. It hurts my brain.

I'm gonna fire a guy today.

One of my laborers feels it is ok to keep calling in to do other stuff. Last week he had a cold and missed a day. Then this morning I get a text 30 minutes before he is supposed to show up saying he was taking the next two days off to register for night classes. I have no problem giving time off but not 30 minutes before the start of a day when I rely on people showing up.

I hope you use the line made famous by Donald Trump.

Me...physical therapy yesterday, physical therapy today... then ice, lots of ice.

I hope you get feeling better soon, havasu.

I bagged up a bunch of crushed aluminium cans that I need to take in to be recycled, gave my dogs their meds, fed the cats, and am now playing Wartune.

My friend who's house I check up on visited yesterday and ran the water to make sure the traps didn't dry out. It was nice seeing her again.

Hooked up a sink and taps for a bathroom in a condo we do the maintenance for, and home Depot unclogging one of their mop sinks. Legit sucked out like 10 lbs of dirt from the janitors. That's kept me busy for the afternoon between angering and shop vac out the dirt.

How much longer do you have to go?

Just passed another inspection.

Awesome!

I spent the day in the dentist office again. Joy.

I agree. Wish I could. It's been nothing but a hassle.

I briefly saw some of the news this morning and saw there were some terrible storms in Texas. I admit, the guys on some sort of sports field holding a giant tarp and getting lifted into the air for a few moments amused me, but it must have sucked for them.

The winds reminded me a bit of when I peered out my window during Supertyphoon Paka (the house I was in was designed to withstand bombings and severe storms-- except the ninnies put the back door in backwards so water flowed in).

My head and neck hurt, my back hurts, and my legs are sore.

I pushed a hand held core drill for 4 1/2 hours today, (4) 6" holes through brick, then (4) 2" holes through poured solid block. Into walls 18" off of the floor. One of the 2" holes had a big piece of rebar in it, took 20 minutes just to cut through the rebar.

You didn't destroy the bit when it hit the rebar?

I hate core drilling but it beats three days of hand digging under an over poured footing.

I hope you feel better, phish.

I should have posted yesterday, but again was too exhausted.
I learned just how much of a wuss I am yesterday. I need to find some low impact way to do some cardio because I tire way too easily. My friend who's house was crushed by an oak tree has moved on with the repairs and put up dry wall that needed to be painted. Between having to pay rent on a second place and the repairs to the second place he can't afford to buy much. He couldn't buy paint with his food stamps but my father used to buy paint for the barn and such and we found a 5 gallon bucket of Killz that was over 4 years old. I'd wager it was probably more like 6 or 7 years old. It was just sitting and collecting dust. So we brought that over and helped him paint. It was my first time using a paint roller and it took awhile to get used to the feel of it in my hand vs a paintbrush, but I thought it worked with the paint much better.

Unfortunately its extremely humid out here and I don't do well in the heat. Add the moisture and it really sucked. We had fans going, but they really couldn't help. My brother and I were drenched in sweat by the time we finished. I think today we need to go over to put a second coat. We didn't paint the spot with the black mold. My friend sprayed it with bleach and it was still wet. I think he's going to clean that up and we can paint it today.

It's a rough patch-up job in that place. I wish I had taken a before picture though. The kitchen is small but it looks larger with the white paint. His poor wife didn't know how to paint or how to dip the roller properly so I had to show her. Poor thing was dripping paint all over the place. Had to use a brush for some little spots and I still remembered how to feather the paint so it wouldn't leave a line-- that art class in high school was helpful in that regard.

I'm really glad we found that bucket of paint. I think it will be able to cover the entire interior of his house and might have some left over afterward. I'm also very glad that it was still in good enough condition to use. Paint is awful when it rots.

I literally fell asleep while using my laptop-- twice! I was waiting for something to load in a facebook game called Wartune and I racked out. People were sending me messages and I was just out of it.

Hopefully I'll be more prepared today. I'm going to bring folding chairs.

Did I mention that my friend was taking up the top layers of flooring in his front room bc it was messed up with water damage and discovered the original flooring-- which was really wall paneling with a floral pattern. I should upload a picture. It was amusing. There was a discussion about who would have put that in as flooring and I said "an old lady" and my friend was like "Are you making fun of my Grandma?-- oh wait, she probably was the one who had it put in".

Despite being tired I feel good to have accomplished something. And my friend has volunteered to come help at my place in return. I just don't know when he'll find the time since he has a lot of work to do. Hopefully we can help him get it done though. I'm hoping he can help me maneuver my linoleum into my bathroom once I put down the self-leveling flooring.

Should I put the linoleum under the toilet or should I put the toilet in and put linoleum around it? I would think the former is the easiest but I don't know if it would create any problems. The previous owners of the house put the toilet down on top of carpet.

Usually when you realize the core bit has stopped advancing you know that you've hit rebar. The bits are very resilient and typically hold up pretty well...unless you've beaten it up before on some rebar. I feel your pain Phish. I've destroyed a few bits before and that ache of drilling multiple holes takes days to go away. Removing the rebar is a frustrating pain in the butt. Finally I met some geothermal install guys who connected me to a company that will drill any hole, anywhere, up to 8" for $30 to $80 each. It was worth it to me to add it into the bids, not very expensive at all really. Enjoy the ibuprofen.
Today I'm giving myself a refresher course on ph, chlorine/bromine and alkalinity for pools and spas. Amazing how much we forget. If ya don't use it, ya lose it.

Zanne, your writings inspire me to almost get off my butt and do something constructive. Almost....;)

I like pulling the toilet and then installing the flooring. It turns out to be a much cleaner job.

Cad, I sure hope my pool guy is also going to this class. It seems he can't even eliminate the yellow algae from my pool, but he sure wants his money every month!
