I taught my son in law how to clean the pool filter and check the chemicals. I believe I wasted a lot of time because he is dumb as a box of rocks.

How can you expect these generations especially those in ca to know how to do things.

Seriously and you call him family? You need me to come and marry your daughter?

My FIL thinks the same thing about me. I broke his mower this weekend. I touch things and they break. My fault, sure, but I'm pretty sure my BIL broke it before I go to it.

Why do I not own my own? I have a guy that does it and bags it due to all the stickers in the yard, he has been unavailable.

Zanne, your writings inspire me to almost get off my butt and do something constructive. Almost....;)

I like pulling the toilet and then installing the flooring. It turns out to be a much cleaner job.

That's what I thought. I think it will be much easier and I can mark the holes for the toilet and the water supply and cut them when the linoleum is down on top of them. The main problem will be getting the linoleum to fit properly and get it all cut right. It's a weird shape with obstacles like the wall coming in for the bedroom closet and the vanity (which I can't move).

Here's a rough sketch:

The main problem is that I don't have any spaces large enough to really lay out the linoleum to cut it and get it in. I'm thinking of taking a bunch of cardboard boxes and lying them out and taping them together to make a large template (and folding them up to move them) then trying to find a spot to put the linoleum and then put the template over it. I sort of suck at measuring. LOL. Or I could pester the guy I gave 5 gallons of Killz to and ask for help. He put down the linoleum in his own house-- granted the rooms didn't have the obstructions like mine. And I want my linoleum to go up the wall about an inch or so and then I will put down some sort of base molding. The bottoms of my wall panels don't meet the floor and I'd rather have little excess than not enough coverage. One problem area is the tub. The wooden piece it sits on is not flush with the tub so it sticks out a bit and I'm going to have to figure out how to cover that.

Anyhoo, today I've been lying around although I had to get up before dawn to go out to the pump house and try to figure out why the water wasn't running. I tugged on the power cord to the jet pump a few times and it started back up. I noticed that when I tried to turn on the exterior light that it kept flickering and a little smoke came out. I'm thinking the issue may be electrical-- bad wiring maybe.

Did I mention that the other day I learned that my scummy neighbor-- who was the tenant who screwed my house up so badly-- is an even worse criminal than I'd previously known? Turns out we can add attempted murder to his list of crimes. He apparently tried to slash people's throats. The people I was helping were telling me how he pulled knives on people and tried to cut and stab them. One guy showed me a scar on his arm from where my neighbor slashed him (while trying to slash his throat but the guy put his arm up). When I asked how the hell the guy wasn't in jail, my friend told me that the jerk was in tight with the DA and always got away with things. That explains a whole hell of a lot.

I live in such an interesting area. LOL.

Throat slashing neighbor?

I agree with using a template. If your overlay is exact, so will be the cut.

Today I talked with a landscaper about getting the property in order and was hit with an astronomical number. I don't know if he just doesn't want to do it, or that's what it cost, but I will be contacting the renter to see if he wants me to move ahead.

Just heard form my landlords, they won't be hauling off the fallen trees, so I'm kind of at a loss as to how to proceed.

Ugh, getting trees hauled is not fun at all. I still have a tree down on top of my barn and no way to remove it. The barn is pretty much totaled because of it, but its still standing. I really should find the contact info for the timber company that owned the tree and pester them to remove it since they were negligent. They actually owe me and my insurance company a lot of money because they were told the tree was dead several years ago and didn't cut it down.

So, today I basically vegged at home. I made lunch for my mother and played a few computer games and slept. whee.

Fire.........

That's the next step.

The landlord is coming out today. If he doesn't want to help me keep the property I pay for usable, then I'll move forward with the breech of contract and find somewhere else to live.

It would not be the first time I've taken on a rental agency. There are fallen tress that need to be removed.

I poisoned for red ants, cleaned up the pontoon and launched it. Also, someone stole some of my life jackets so I had to buy more. Damn, $9.00 a piece out here at the lake.

Good for you Austin! Back in the 80s my parents rented a place and the landlord said everything was fine as we were moving out but then refused to give the deposit back. Back then it was only like $40 or so, but on the principle of the matter my father took it to small claims court. Landlord didn't bother to show up in court so the judgment went in my father's favor. A lien was put on the guy's house. Years later the guy tried to sell it and discovered that he couldn't because of the lien. He found out how to contact my father and demanded he undo the lien. My father said he would as soon as the guy sent him the $40 for deposit (my mother thought he should have paid interest on it but my father just wanted to make a point). The guy was pretty pissed off about it, but he had to pay the $40.

I don't blame you one bit for not being happy with the trees down in the yard and the landlord not doing anything about it.

Havasu, I can't stand red ants so I'm glad you got rid of them. The fire ants around here really suck. Sorry someone stole your life vest. I hope you have fun!

Last place I lived I got real familiar with rental law in Texas. Safety Deposit is for rent only. They cannot use it to repair the rental unit based on damage. They have to take you to court for that.

The last place I lived tried to say they had to repaint (not my fault, they just wanted to) along with having the floors cleaned. It fell into regular wear and tear and I got my papers together and presented them an offer.

Give me my money, or I can sue and as per Texas law get that plus 2.5 back. It would have cost them $2,000.

They gave me back my money.
