Zanne, How is the new septic system? Hows life this week with all the cats?
Septic system is working fine as far as I can tell. Everything is flushing. No gurgling in the sinks anymore. No sewer gas smell either.
The cats are having fun trying to find ways to knock over as many objects as they can. They knocked over every single trash can they could find and then apparently jumped into the spilled trash the way people jump into piles of leaves.
Did I mention that the septic tank came with temporary plugs? (just the cement parts for the openings that were removed). Anyway, the septic guys were going to haul them off but I realized they were the same thickness as the crappy step my mother got (that is plastic and was caving in because my brother was too heavy for it) and got them to put the cement things on the porch so now we have a sturdy step that doesn't crunch. I need to figure out how to trim the step to fit better (it is round and sticks out a bit too far).
My one-eyed kitten is doing well except for a bit of a cold. She's been eating a lot and playing, so it doesn't seem to be slowing her down much.
Also, I finally caved and got a new cellphone. My Razr V3xx from 2007 (the only cellphone I ever owned before) would no longer work because the battery died and all of the replacement batteries were DOA. I waited until the Samsung Galaxy S3 dropped to about $40 and then got a Ballistic Maxx case for it. I'm going to see if I can find a way to rig a retractable keychain to it so it won't hit the ground if it falls.
Sorry to hear about your bed breaking. That is so annoying! My brother kept breaking the boxsprings on his bed. I don't know what was wrong with the frame, but the box springs kept slipping out and then the wood on the bottom edges (on the long side) kept splitting. I examined it and the wood was a 1"x1". We thought he would need a new box spring but then I remembered that I hoarded some long metal L-brackets from a sectional sofa we disposed of (after my brother broke the wooden parts on it). I screwed those on to the 1x1s to repair the break and to reinforce them. It stopped the boxspring from slipping out the only problem now is that the whole thing sags in the middle. I think I need to learn some more carpentry skills and build him a platform storage bed with extra reinforcement in the middle.
Austin, sorry to hear about your back. I hope you feel better soon.
