@Zanne, I hope your brother gets some relief. The CPAP did zero, bupkis (more properly bobkes, באבקעס) meaning “nonsense” or “nothing.”, nada for me with regards to allowing me to sleep any longer. Some causes of insomnia must be caused by other things going on in my life at least.

And, yes, you seem to be living in a soap opera, and my life seems so dull and boring in comparison. Thanks for your interesting reads!

@Zanne, I've used a cpap for many many years (20+) where i don't sleep longer, I sleep better. Stopped my snoring. I dont remember my sleep study numbers but they were higher than your brothers. My wife had moved out of my bedroom so she could get some sleep. I stored very loud.
I used to be part of the churches youth group, and we would go camping, (Royal Rangers) I had to have my own tent set up on the far edge of the campsite . No more snoring now, but addicted to the cpap.. even if. I lay down for a nap, I feel naked without it.
Hopfully it helps your brother (if he will wear it, it does take a bit to get used to)

Most, if not all of the electric companies in Kalifornia offer it, since they are dependent upon power to run them.

Yes, CPAP machines can help reduce electric bills in California through the Medical Baseline Allowance program. This program provides extra electricity at a low rate to people who use medical equipment, including CPAP machines.

How it works
  • Customers who qualify for the program receive extra electricity at the lowest baseline rate.
  • The extra electricity helps offset the cost of running medical equipment.

  • Customers may also receive advance notice of Public Safety Power Shut-off (PSPS) events.

Who may qualify?
  • People who use electrically powered medical equipment regularly, including CPAP machines
  • People who need space heating or air conditioning due to a medical condition

How to apply Fill out a "New Application, Have your physician certify the application, and Return the application to the address provided.

Thanks, but being I'm in sc, I don't see anything remotely like that.
I've found sc really sucks when it comes to helping .
Now georgia seems to be pretty good. California, possibly, if the cost of living wasn't so high.

I have a retired but perfectly good ResMed CPAP machine. !it is currently programmed for an “eleven” on whatever scale they use to measure these things. I am wondering how the best way to dispose of it is? Donate it? Send it to the junk pile in tact or take a small sledge hammer to it? But because it was a prescribed medical device I am almost sure I’d get in hot water if I just gave it away.

Any thoughts?

Those machines are ridiculously expensive if you don't have insurance. As crazy as it is, I have seen those machines posted on CL and people buy them right up. I also have a new machine that didn't work for me long story short. What I wouldn't give to have a good night of sleep and be able to wake up and feeling rested!

I thought I might check into a sleep study because my wife said I was snoring and would stop breathing for just a couple of seconds.

I lost about 15 pounds and she says I still snore a little but I don’t stop breathing for a couple seconds any longer.,

So I plan to lose another 15 pounds and see if the snoring stops. Probably will because after a gained a little weight that’s when it all started.

Why full staff? Happy for Trump ?
Well, I'm glad for wishy-washy to be out and gone.
We will see if Mr. trump lives up to his promises.
If he gets rid of tax on my ss I'll be happier !
Fixing the border, there's different issues with sending people back, but I think it should be slap shut for a while.
Just follow the laws!

Best idea of all!

The sleep study if preformed correctly is the most accurate way to diagnose the severity of your sleep aponia. Then just listen to all their recommendations and figure out what you think will be the best course of treatment for your lifestyle. Everyone is different and controlling your weight is just part of the bigger picture. In some people it can be curable and others not.

Untreated sleep apnea can lead to heart issues. So the sooner you do the sleep study, the better for your over all health long term. Best of luck.

I went to a sleep study once. I just finished a cup of coffee at 5:30PM, and the doc called me saying there was one opening at 6PM available. I rushed down to this place which had a backyard looking at Interstate 10. They placed 110 wires on me, placed a camera looking down on me, said "good night", and closed the door. I couldn't move, fearing I'd pull out a wire, so I layed there, eyes wide open, until 6AM
I was later told the test was inconclusive (duh!), then asked me to come back.
Nope!

They didn't give you the option of doing the sleep study at home?

I only snore when I sleep on my back. I don’t think I qualify.
There is a little more to it then just that. By chance have you heard of and or tried any of those special designed mouth pieces for sleep apnea? Some of them are reasonably priced with a free 90 day money back guarantee. In a nut shell, they hold your bottom jaw forward when you sleep to help keep your airway open.

So, I never went to sleep last night. My brain just wouldn't let me get rested since I knew I had to be up early. I was told I needed to pick my brother up "by 6am". So I left around 4:45am and made it there around 5:50am. The door was locked so I had to sit and wait. Listened to music. Pulled a pillow out of the back and rested my head for a bit and around 6:10am I saw the lights come on inside. Around 6:15 I saw my brother emerge. He said he had the best sleep he'd had in years. Initially he had trouble getting to sleep bc he had to keep going to the bathroom. But he said they put him on a Tempurpedic mattress and once he fell asleep he was out until they woke him up in the morning a little after 6. Then they had to take all the leads off of him. Turns out the tech, Geoff, is a Star Trek fan so while having leads put on and removed they talked about Star Trek, sci fi, comic books, etc.

We popped in to the Walmart up on Colosseum and looked for stuff we can't find out our local one. Then went straight home where I crawled back into bed and got a couple hours nap before I got back up and started cleaning. I discovered a mess on the counter behind the pressure cooker that required using a scraper to get stuff off the counter. My brother knew about it but wouldn't clean it up. I got it all cleared up and he was so happy about a clean counter that he hugged me. I also cleaned up the floor a bit-- brother had just been dumping trash in front of the sink and there was broken glass and stuff. I got most of it up but my body was not cooperating.

I don't know if its the cold or what but i could barely move-- arms felt weak, body is stiff and sore. Friend forgot he was supposed to come work on plumbing over here but he was busy unpacking and fixing stuff at the new house. His former neighbor helped him move some stuff and was sad that he moved away but happy for him that he got a nice place. Turns out the late vet's son lives just around the corner from him and invited him over for bbq tonight. That guy has cattle and friend and his wife plan to start their own garden. I suggested they could collect some of the cow manure as fertilizer. I used to collect the cow manure from my cows for my late elderly friend for his garden. He was only joking with me the first time he suggested it and I said if he gave me the sacks he wanted them in to fill up I'd go gather the stuff for him.

I'm wondering if my friend can get an extra discount or exemption on his property taxes for growing produce for himself and his family. He said he'd been spending about $2k a month on takeout food and that the one thing his daughter doesn't like is that she has to get homecooked meals instead of fast food. Its better for their budget and for her health though. My uncle is a master gardener so I'll pass along any gardening questions my friend has. At least my friend won't have to deal with the property taxes from the city now. But his internet bill is higher for slower internet. We'll have to see what his electric bill is, but the house has stayed over 50 degrees consistently.

I convinced him to try the hose and bladder instead of liquid fire but he still insisted on going up on the roof. water started popping up from the ground and the grass moved enough to see a cleanout. I told him "Hey, you've got a cleanout down here!" and he was cursing because he wouldn't have gone on the roof if he'd known that. So he ran a snake through the cleanout and then followed with the hose. A whole bunch of solidified grease came up. So now the sink drains fine.

He can't get the water for the fridge water supply to work. Traced it back to a corroded shutoff near the water heater. I think the shutoff is clogged. He said the shutoff says 1/2" on it but the copper line coming out of it on one side was clearly 1/4". He followed that line and no breaks or anything that he could find. Handle wouldn't turn on the shutoff (it's one of those ball valve looking ones) so he took it off and manually turned the nut with a wrench. Nothing happened so my guess is it's corroded shut or clogged. The copper leading to the tee it is on is green. I asked him to send pics but he forgot. I'll have to get him to send them later. I personally would replace that entire tee and clean up that copper just in case.
