Its not a good morning for me. The fix on the AC that cost over $700 didn't work. The place that sold me the outside unit can't get a compatible air handler anymore bc of some EPA regulations changed the type of refrigerant allowed. The 6+lbs of refrigerant put in yesterday already leaked out already.

They don't make the air handlers compatible with my outside unit anymore. Stopped manufacturing this year and won't even sell repair parts. So they can't get repair parts for stuff. I was referred to another Trane place and told that while they could install an air handler (if they can find one) it would be $7k to $8k but that they couldn't do warranty servicing as we are outside their service area. I was told American Standard is the same as Trane but with different label but there aren't any companies that are authorized to service in my area. I checked. It would be $15k to buy a whole new set and that is a conservative estimate, but they still would not be able to service it. We may have to see if the place that installed the outside unit can get a whole brand new set but I keep getting the answering machine.

Also, I heard back from the company that is installing fiber internet in my area-- the ones that put conduit up to my neighbor's driveway. They said that I'm outside of their service area and they have no intention of running it out to me.

Oh, and my landline keeps crapping out in the middle of calls.

I hope the weather cools off soon bc I'm boiling and it looks like we won't be getting a new air handler anytime soon.

Ended up calling 10 different places before finding someone who could come out for the AC. Exactly the 10th one (although I had some dropped calls and some back and forth with other places). 11th if you count an automated form with HomeDepot. They called me around 5pm after the other guy had already written up a contract. They can replace just the air handler, put a surge protector on it for free, put an air purifier on it, and have 10yrs parts and labor warranty. It will cost more than both units combined did back in 2010, but it will be worth it to have working AC again.

I cleaned up kitchen and hallway a bit, cleaned litterboxes again, put down carpet powder, and sprayed febreeze. Guy was really nice. Looked at outside unit, inside unit and got prices and stuff. They will come out tomorrow to install and haul the old unit off for free.
