A new discovery for us: the kitchen sink was draining slowly, so I assumed I was going to need to disassemble all the pipes and clean them out. (A normal occurrence that happens occasionally) but we went out to jersey Mike's and got a sub. With that the giant drink that comes with it.. (close to 20-30 ounce diet coke) which were filled before going back home.
We didn't
Drink any more, so it got poured down the kitchen sink... and presto, sink now drains like new.
So diet coke seems to be a good drain dissolver for whatever is coating those pipes.

That's good to know! And it's been hypothesized that plumbing problems increased dramatically in New York City when Mayor Michael Bloomberg banned 7-11 from selling the Big Gulp, the double Big Gulp and the Super Big Gulp.

So, 2 days ago, the other half was complaining about her slow draining bathroom sink. I had 3/4 gallon of white vinegar, but bought it to finally clean the drip coffee maker. I figured I'd kill 2 birds with one stone. I ran the vinegar through the coffee maker, until it came out boiling hot. I used the last of my baking soda (about 1/2 a box), pouring it down the bathroom drain. I then used the hot vinegar and poured it down the bathroom sink. The solution just stayed in the sink, bubbling like crazy. After about 15 minutes, the drain was free. I then had to run fresh water through the coffee pot and once done, I poured this hot water down her drain, and there was no slowing at all. G/F was impressed that I cleaned both her coffee maker and her sink drain, while she was playing "Drunko-Bunko" at her church friend's house.

I received a bonus pat on my head for thinking outside the box.

I have a Native American ( Indian ) friend from OK who is up in his late 70's now. He would always tell me and giggle while saying it. You know, you can eat snake, but why when there is so many other better things out there to eat! LOL
