Hi Everyone,

I'm remodeling a full bathroom and have the entire bathroom gutted down to the studs and joists. The original plumbing from 1940 includes cast iron and copper drain pipes. I'm not changing the location of the fixtures, but was planning on re-piping the cast iron and copper drain pipes to PVC. I'm going to reroute the copper hot and cold supply lines as well, but I'm not concerned about that part.

As shown in the picture, I'm concerned about replacing the existing closet bend or fitting for the toilet as the current one includes a 3 in 1 fitting (closet bend to receive toilet, cleanout, and wye for receiving adjacent shower drain and sink drain). My tentative plan is to cut the cast iron 3 in 1 fitting, chisel the lead from the cast iron bend, insert a rubber bush into the cast iron hub, have a 3" X 3" X 2" wye fitting extend from the cast iron hub pickup the shower and sink drains, and have a 4" X 3" closet bend connected to the wye fitting for the toilet. I might be tight on my rough in dimensions, but I have a little room as the existing toilet flange is 15" from the stud wall. For the remaining fittings, I was planning on replacing the copper like for like with PVC.

Are there any issues with the above plan, especially with respect to venting? The bathtub drain has a separate vent not shown in the picture. Is there a better way to deal with the existing toilet flange? Removing the cast iron bends would require opening up the ceiling and partial wall in the room below, which I'd like to avoid if possible.

Thanks for the help.

I bought a PVC 3X3X2 wye and 4X3 closet bend and those fittings aren't going to work even if they abut each other. They will push my rough in below 10 inches.

My thought now is to replace the cast iron closet bend with a PVC bend and reroute the adjacent shower drain, sink drain, and tub drain to the 4" cast iron line coming from the adjacent toilet, which is vented with the 4" cast iron stack on the left in the picture.

Any thoughts? Thanks.
