Hi all,
I have to cut into a 1 1/4" copper pipe in two places within a 2x4 wall. I opened the wall to gain access to the pipe. I don't have a rotary pipe cutter that goes up to 1 1/4" pipe and I couldn't use one anyway since there is just a little clearance behind the pipe. My question is what do you recommend I use to cut the pipe that will not damage it so I can either use a push-on or compression fitting after its cut? There is really hardly any room to use a I was thinking that I could use my variable speed oscillating tool which has a straight serrated blade that will probably work and then I could clean it up so either a compression ring or push-on fitting will work. I really can't get a hack saw or jig saw in there and a reciprocating saw would probably leave the copper hard to clean smooth. Perhaps someone can suggest a better way to handle this? Thanks.

Larry

PS: Fyi, what I'm doing is cutting into the pipe (see picture) in two places about a foot apart, then using elbows to get out of the wall where I will then reduce to 1" and install a Moen Flo device in the line. It's in a garage so no issues regarding having to hide what I do. In fact, it needs to be very accessible especially if I use push-on fittings to transition everything to 1". For some reason, the water supply is 1 1/4" and then down the line it reduces to 3/4". 1 1/4" in my opinion was overkill and 3/4" would have been fine.

Oscillating tool with a fine tooth metal blade would work, 24 tpi, the finer the better. Then a file or reamer can clean the cut ends up.
