Both plumbers and plumber's helpers are a necessity, and paid well for their expertise.

For years, I was an Equestrian Vet Tech. Yep, I was the one who got the dirty work, and I did it for free, just to learn. It was a very rewarding experience and the knowledge gained was invaluable, especially when I had my horse.

Ever watch those reality fixer shows ? Like first time flippers or renovation realities ? My wife loves them... but the stuff I see them do just makes me cringe and feel sorry for whoever lives there next. It's unreal what they do, and unpermitted 90% of the time.

On flipping Vegas those crazy clowns patched a leaking roof from the inside. They say it only rains once a year there 🤣

There was a reddit thread talking about those homes they build or flip on HGTV and DIY and whatever those channels are and someone who worked for production on some of the shows said to never buy the stuff. Said they cut corners, don't get permits for stuff, don't pass inspection, and do really shoddy work. Said they show things from afar in the final images so they don't show the closeups of bad drywall, sloppy baseboards, and just crap work. People have to spend a ton of $ to get stuff fixed properly.

I like some of the Youtube channels. Matt Risinger in particular is good. He will show new construction homes as they are being put up and complain about how they are putting up pretty much cardboard as the sheathing instead of plywood or osb or something substantial.

I'm still sick but I think the mucus worked its way out of my chest. I took mucinex for several days and felt awful. Finally decided to take allergy meds instead so I could sleep instead of coughing my bladder out. Slept for almost 2 days. Couldn't stay awake for 30min at a time. Was still able to get food for Mom at least. My brother actually cooked for her last night.

Grocery shopping today with my brother. Casino is renovating where he works so he's off for a few days. My cat, Boo, swatted toward my face to get my attention because he wanted food. Then he wanted to sit on my lap for cuddles. He keeps trying to get me to go outside and walk with him but I'm not up to it. He's a good kitty though.

Woke up coughing. Was in the bathroom and saw a pipe wrench. I've been looking all over for one. I have several but they always disappear. Creeped in to Mom's bathroom while she was sleeping and took off the cap with the aerator from her lavatory faucet. Had a rubber band wrapped around it to protect it and give better grip. Once it came loose I removed it and the o-ring, cleaned it out, cleaned the o-ring, purged the lines by running both hot and cold. Water came out black at first. Put it back together and made sure it ran smoothly without leaking from the wrong spot. Got it tightened on and removed the rubber band. Works fine now.

Hopefully I can get back to sleep. My computer crashed earlier while I was playing Elder Scrolls Online. The game itself has been crashing, but something caused all of windows to crash. Didn't lose anything fortunately.

Also had to re-order something from Samsclub because Fedex is refusing to deliver the original item and it is probably ruined since its been over a week since it was sent. I asked them to proverbially light a fire under Fedex's behind on getting it delivered.

Flash flood emergency warning from my phone woke me up around 5am today. Fed the kitties. Had loud thunderstorms all night. Dog tried to burrow under me because the thunder scares her.

I've been thinking about adding water filtration system to the house and was thinking, since the water comes in under the house in the southeast corner, maybe I could add filtration inside the future laundry room between the dryer and the side wall. Got about 12" to spare. Alternatively, I could filter just the hot water and have it where the current water heater is and go to a tankless water heater. I need to take a picture of the current water softener we got 20yrs ago that the plumber refused to install. I don't think it handles iron sediment. Cows ate the salt that was supposed to go in it.

Got a 50 gallon water heater. Will have 3 bathrooms (two tubs and one shower) plus laundry plus kitchen sink so don't know what size tankless would be necessary. Current tank has lots of crud in it.

Any thoughts?

Anyhoo, feeling a little better today. Still tired but not feeling like absolute garbage.

No plumbing today/ yesterday , I previously built 2 nightstands for my wife. She has asked for granite tops (so she doesn't ruin the tops) so, spent the day yesterday cutting 2 pieces out of a big slab that was left over from my kitchen. Doesn't sound like it would be to hard, but the first cut had to be vertical as the big slab is just to big to lay down. Used a diamond blade in a circle saw for that cut, but couldn't get all the way through to the bottom. Switched to a angle grinder , but had to put in a 7 inch blade. That was a bit scary to use. But that got the first cut. Got it layer down with the use of a hand truck. Then it was mark out the next 4 cuts to get the 2 pieces. Circle saw with a diamond blade works well for this. (Wife standing back with a leaf blower to blow the dust out of the garage as I cut.. (that worked well too) after cutting those, I was done for the day, took about 5 hours, but at 68 years old that was all I could stand, that stuff is heavy. Next will come adding the curved corners and round over the edges and buffing until my arms fall off. I'm really feeling it today, legs, back, arms all in recovery mode... uuugh where is that Bengay ointment. Picture of that angle grinder... that 7 inch blade .. you just have to be very careful... it's very unsafe and not recommended at all.

Ludington, that sounds exhausting but very cool. I'd love to see pics of the night stands and the granite you cut. Is a wet saw supposed to be used for cutting granite?
Angle grinders can be tough to use. Sorry to hear you're sore and hope you get feeling better soon.

Power went out last night and stayed out for several hours. I shut my computer down, called to report the outage, let Mom know it was out (her UPS keeps her cpap running so she didn't know it was out). My UPS kept one fan running for about 4 hours but it eventually ran out of battery. The stagnant air didn't help with the respiratory crud.

Mom got up early after the power came back on and I got her something to eat and then I had some tomato soup. I've been craving more soups. It's wet and cloudy outside so I don't want to go to the pharmacy to pick up my RX.

Cats are piled on me right now.
