Well pump discharge connection was corroded and leaking. The connector broke off soon after extracting the pump. I am having trouble removing the connector piece still on the pump. Since I did not install the well, I just want to be sure I am removing the right part. I would appreciate it if you could confirm that the black part in the picture below with the red arrow should be removed. I am putting a lot of force on it to unscrew but it is not budging. Any suggestions on how to remove it are appreciated.
Thanks

Electrolysis of the galvanized and brass or SS pump discharge has eaten most of the galvanized bushing. Makes it hard to unscrew. The trick is to use a pipe vice with a chain to hold where the white tag is on the top of the pump. A backup wrench on the flats will squeeze the pump discharge and make it impossible to unscrew. I have seen them so bad that I just used a chisel and hammer to cut the bushing into pieces to get it out.

Thanks for the tips

I had one that looked terrible, thought it was just red mud, and it chipped off like it was hard dried mud. But pretty sure this was galvanic action also. However the nipple looked fine once I got all of this off. Screwed it into my new pump, but it has a plastic housing...been down there 3 years...

After I get the connection to the pump tightened, I will wrap the top of the pump and up a foot or so over all the connections with electric tape. Take the tape off 30 years later and the connections will look like new.
