Although I could be wrong, I think he was having some fun with the fact that there are a lot of us out there that can’t or won’t even do the very basic in troubleshooting before calling in a pro and spending big bucks to press a button to restore normal ops.

Yes, while some people know about reset buttons on the disposal itself and GFCI resets, a lot of people don’t have a clue.

That makes for simple service calls for me. It’s something to break. ✌️

That American standard unit looks ok.

The only problem I see with it is that it doesn’t have a wrench slot underneath to un-jam with an Allen wrench.

They want you to use a broom handle or a wooden spoon innthe grind chamber. 🫢🤣

I’m glad you didn’t cut the cord off, that voids the warranty.

Yeah, it does not like the ISE models do.

Thankfully we don't really dump much in it, so we rarely get jams, and I suppose at least we can unplug it now before fishing anything out.

The only other bad part about it seems to be that the splash guard holes are absolutely TINY so there's not as much waterflow as I'm used to and the water can even start to back up. I assume it's sufficient to run the disposal though, since it came with the unit. If it gets to be a nuisance I could always cut the guard with a scissors to open it up more I guess?

I guess you could. I’ve never used an American Standard disposal.

That’s exactly what he was doing. It’s his nature…

I have an elderly aunt who lives on Cape Cod, and twice in the past year her GFCI has popped on her kitchen counter. I think she has a small appliance that likes to set it off, or it’s simply a bad GFCI. Unfortunately, it’s one hidden behind a large utensil thingy she keeps on the counter, plus she completely forgets…she’s 94. Twice she was about to call an electrician, and twice I happened to be there and told her about resetting the button. She won’t remember.

What she does remember generally is to call me before she calls anybody else.

Not too much different than my neighbor who was about to call a plumber for his toilet leaking… when in reality it was his three young boys with bad aim! 😱 this neighbors only 40 not 94!

That's why, at home at least, I will always "sit" from here on out. Along similar lines, I remember the first time I landed in Europe at Schipol Airport in Amsterdam and noticed that all the urinals in the men's bathroom had little blue "houseflies" painted or glazed into the porcelain of the urinals. I later learned that the purpose was to help with the "aiming" process.
