I think those hot water bypass valves are for use when there is no pumped return line watts makes one with a very good description. I meant you could shut off the hot line out, then check for flow on the hot side

Thanks for the help. Yes the pump would need to be reduced from 3/4 down to 3/8th.

But doesn't that happen anyway since the bypass valve is connected to a 3/8th angle valve?

Speaking of pumps, my Grundfos pump went out on me today. It now takes me 2 minutes to get hot water at the back of the house.

Still havnt fixed this. Called customer service and the lady on the phone was a much better plumber than me. They were closing. But calling back Monday she is going to have me hook a garden hose to the water heater and bypass the pipes.

Then i believe she is going to have me turn each faucet on, and to note the amount of flow. I think maybe the digital display near the WH is going to show that.

Any advice to get ready? She thinks its a crossover issue just like everyone else. Problem is nobody can find it.

Depends on the situation and how much work you are willing to do at the time. You obviously have two choices. Leave it alone and don't use it or bite the bullet and change it out.

Hard part is im pretty sure shutting off the water cuts off the entire building. Its a big giant 3" pipe and valve. I asked the owner she said when the water heater was installed they had to kill the whole building. Shes not positive though.
