Hot water troubleshoot and recirculating pump question

I think those hot water bypass valves are for use when there is no pumped return line watts makes one with a very good description. I meant you could shut off the hot line out, then check for flow on the hot side
 
Thanks for the help. Yes the pump would need to be reduced from 3/4 down to 3/8th.

But doesn't that happen anyway since the bypass valve is connected to a 3/8th angle valve?
 
Speaking of pumps, my Grundfos pump went out on me today. It now takes me 2 minutes to get hot water at the back of the house.
