Bathtub Drain Stop

Hi, any suggestions how I can remove bathtub drain with broken/rotted “cross”?
Pic shows there’s not much to grab onto to turn out.

There are tools sold at plumbing supply house,home depot,Amazon, it fits into the drain and speeds out and grips the drain when trying to loosen

The one I tried and DID NOT WORK was the one that looks like a big EZ-OUT. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the EZ-OUT to bite. The one that did work for me was the traditional one with four fingers but the metal in mine was still intact.
