Hi, everyone! I'm a new homeowner and this is my first time on the forum so please forgive any and all stupid questions. Recently my wife and I have noticed this tick/almost hollow burping sound after showering. We also routinely notice the click/click/click/click of what sounds like the pipes expanding/contracting through the wall, but this burp or drip sound is new. It only lasts for 2-5 minutes after running the water. Any thoughts? It is on our second floor and we haven't noticed any signs of leaking or water damage on the ceiling underneath it.

The ticking noise is what you suspect, does the water ever pool, up (back up) when showering??? Is the noise coming from both shower and sink drain??? No question is a stupid one!!!

Thanks! It hasn't pooled or backed up yet, and so far it's only coming from the shower drain. The sink is fine.

If this just started I would remove the stopper in the drain and clean it. Then fill the tub up about 1/2 way and use a plunger on it.

You might have some hair build up in there.

I'll try it! I'd be surprised if it has been used enough for any hair to build up but who knows. Also it doesn't seem to happen after running cold water. Just lukewarm to hot.

Some of what you’re hearing is expansion but it also hear what sounds like the water dripping into the drain. Maybe not ? I don’t know.

It definitely sounds like a bit of dripping. If I'm not seeing any signs of a leak anywhere is that dripping something not to be worried about?

What twowaxhack mention earlier stuff builds up on the under side of the strainer, the strainer screw and the cross pieces in the drain assembly water will drop off that until it dries out
