Basically the whole city is shut down. They closed school for the week.

This snows going to melt and then turn to ice at night. We also have a lot of bridges here living near the water. It’s easier to just stay home.

Gulf of America gets snow, Gulf of Mexico didn’t. See how things change ?

But I moved from Upstate NY, and when I was growing up, 8 inches was just another day, they wouldn't close school.. like ever. I lived on a hill, and the school bus had Chains, and ports by the wheels to drop sand if they needed.

Where in Upstate? I spent a number of years in Rome, NY, after getting out of the Navy. We had to climb 120-foot towers at the top of Star Hill, near Turin, N.Y., in the dead of winter. I can recall one winter when my at-the-time wife managed the local Sears store. During one particularly bitter week and a half when the temps were -30 without adding the "real feel" factor in and they sold $4,500 in battery sales alone!

Came from a little town , Glen Aubrey. It is near Endicott or Binghamton .. But yup, I know Rome, onida, Utica... went to Whitney Point school, Broome Tech. More school in the carolinas..

Finally finished the dishwaser repair, still need to put the bottom kick plate back on. I put a rubber matt down and bought a leak sensor alarm to go under it plus under the sink.
It is the rope type, senses a leak all along the rope.
A few pictures... I have one sensor but split the feed so it goes 2 directions. 1 down under the cabinets to get to the dishwaser (it's around the corner from the sink) and the other stays in the sink cabinet. You can see the rope curled around under the washer in the last picture.

We did have water trickling but that didn't help. We got at least 6" of snow-- possibly 8. I didn't go measure. It finally thawed today but water didn't come back on. I was able to go look. First glance I saw a broken PVC pipe right after some PEX. Figured "no big deal, cap the pex for now" since it was an outdoor line. Friend came out and capped it, but then noticed that the freaking jet pump was split open. Ugh.

This is the coldest its gotten, the longest it stayed below freezing, and the most snow we've had in this area in my lifetime. The float switch for the cistern didn't trigger to keep filling and the jet pump was trying to pump dry after it cracked. I was able to cut power to the jet pump at least. Price went up at least $100 on the pump, sales tax went up to 11%, and had to pay expedited shipping to get a new pump before February. Even then, it will still take about a week. ugh.
Glad I filled those 5 gallon buckets with water in the house before this happened.

The ocean is full of crap from all sorts of life forms. It's nasty. LOL.
I'm researching pump savers but only finding stuff that is several years old. I think I've got things sorted on being able to insulate my shed a bit better, but I need to make sure my jet pump doesn't pump air and run while dry again. I also need something better than the stupid switch that keeps failing on filling my cistern but finding a potable water safe float switch that works with 1HP 230vac pump is proving to be a total pain. I need some sort of intermediary and can't find the right thing. Although, making sure the jet pump doesn't run dry is at least a start.

My weather-related issues pale in comparison to most of the ones that the South is facing but mine did come in "threes": Batteries in my Ring camera devices have either failed or shut down due to temperature, the obstacle sensors or the garage door opener itself have failed, and my wife lost the key fob to one of our "Yeeps".

Thoughts and prayers are going out to all of you that were affected by the arctic calamity for safety and a quick return to normalcy.

Felt sick this morning. Fought off the urge to throw up, drank Pepto, and curled into a ball until after 4pm. Then I got up, found some clamps in the workshop, then went to Walmart to get JB Weld. By the time I got back it was 47 and the sun was going down. My red cow seemed distressed about something. She had tears in her eyes and seems down. Not sure why. I went over and petted her and sang to her. She didn't react much so I hope it was just something mildly irritating her eyes and that she's not sad about something. I didn't see her daughter, but they often split up when outside. They still had sweet feed left over from yesterday. I'll have to find music cows like on youtube and take my phone out and play some to her tomorrow to see if it cheers her up any.

Also, this is part of my yard (doesn't show the back fields) The red marker is the house and I put text where the workshop is so you can see how far I have to go to get to my workshop from the house. The yard slopes downward toward the workshop and barn.

My mother just paged and wants Mucinex.

I say "paged" but it's via an intercom on the landline phone handsets and not an actual pager. I figured I could at least try to jb weld the pump back together and if it doesn't work its as expected. My brother seems to expect me to magically fix things and has been kvetching nonstop. So I'm going to at least try since I'm not sure the pump will arrive when they said it would as they haven't even shipped it yet. I got an e-mail saying it shipped but UPS said they didn't get it yet and only a label was created. Kinda pisses me off. Especially since I paid extra for expedited shipping.

eBay and other vendors are notorious for saying they’ve shipped only to find out that a label was created. Fargin’ bastiges! Good luck getting the pump and getting your water supply up and running!
