Downey, huh?

Did you ever go to Marmac's Steak House in Downey?
We departed the day after I graduated from DSHS for Virginia and I don’t recall much about eating places in Downey. As an aside, I lived next to Karen Carpenter and we were schoolmates class of 1967.

I was in the 9th grade in a junior high school in Downey, CA, whose name has been changed taking a math test. The whole world froze that day and, just for a moment, the entire world mourned. That will never happen again.
Wow small world I lived in Downey until I was 15. Used to play at Griffith middle school all the time.

My dad told me he was outside either working on a car or playing in the streets when one of his neighbors ran out of her house and screamed that the president had been shot. All of the people who were outside ran inside to turn on their radios. He said it was very surreal.

I wanted to get Chinese food today but Mom wanted me to cook. Still feeling sick so it took a lot out of me to make my version of shepherd's pie. Mom liked it though so that was a plus. Dogs liked the scraps they got. Saved some for my brother for when he wakes up. He's feeling really cruddy too. So is Mom. Tested negative for Covid on the home test but still feeling bleh. Sneezing, stuffy/runny nose, and fatigue. The sneezing is the worst bc my bladder doesn't like it. So I sneeze and then swear. Then the dog started sneezing. Poor thing.

When it stops raining I'm going to have to roll down the windows to air out the truck while I disinfect the inside. I sneeze a LOT when I get in the truck. Had to do a curbside order for some soup yesterday.

I got woken up by the dog deciding to flop himself right up against me for warmth. Got up and went to the stores. Walmart for some more food and to see if some items I didn't get yesterday were still in stock. They weren't. Went to TSC for some feed for the cows. Picked up a cat tree on sale. Needed to clear a space for the cat tree so I embarked on major cleaning. Broom broke on me. Had it for over a decade. Was bummed bc it was a great broom but it gave up the ghost. The metal underneath the plastic sheathing had rusted. Made a trip back to Walmart for another broom. Continued cleaning and then rolled the box for the cat tree across the porch, up the steps, all the way through the front room & through the kitchen and up on to a cooler where it was easier to open. Assembled it-- which took awhile and I had to take some breaks to stretch & rest my back. Kitties liked it though. Set the old cat tree up on the table bc I couldn't lug it out the front door.
You can see the old cat tree behind to the right. Obvious why I replaced it. LOL. It had dropped a few tiers over the years. Fat cats broke stuff off. Aminatu likes the hanging mouse toy.

Cooked dinner, napped, got up and heated up some potato soup for Mom and am about to go to sleep again. Boo woke me up saying it was canned-food-o'clock again.

Last night watched a recording of Sundays broadcast of “Unsellable Houses” in which a twin sisters real estate group in Snohomish, WA, invest their money in an unsellable house to bring it up to modern standards that today’s market demands.

The home this week (S4E12) belonged to the late noted plumber, Terry Love who died of cancer in January. His family continues the website and business. The house was exceedingly needy, and required over $100K in renovation and repairs to make it sellable. The family could have sold this Woodinville home as a “fixer-upper” but wanted to honor their late father by completing updates he never got around to.

I’m surprised Terry Love’s house would need so much repair! I’ll have to find this episode.

I talked to Terry online just a couple weeks before he passed. He was encouraging me to finish my bathroom reno and had given some plumbing advice. Really sweet guy. He went so fast after the cancer came back. I'll have to look for that episode.
How did "Aminatu" come by his, or her, name?
It's a historical name. Aminatu was a queen of Zaria. She had a sister named Hatshepsut who was named after a female pharaoh. Our cats all have weird names. Either historical or off-the-wall stuff. Our oldest cat "Boo" was originally named "********" by a late elderly friend. He found the term offensive but realized that Mom found it offensive too so he called the cat that to mess with her and that was all he answered to. Boo had a white colored brother named Cracker. We tried other names but he wouldn't respond but he he now responds to Boo. Itsy is the 2nd oldest. She's Boo's cousin & she had a sister named Bitsy. Ginger is the one-eyed orange kitty. Hadn't initially planned to keep her, but since she lost her eye I didn't feel right returning her to the semi-feral cat colony. Her brother Rupert (named after Rupert Grint) is also an orange kitty. He had a severe ear infection that messed up his balance so he came home with us. We picked up Mewlatto from the middle of the road. He was a tiny kitten who was crying out for help. He's a fluffy black & white kitty with a black nose. I forgot to mention that Boo is a fluffy solid black kitty and Itsy is a fluffy tuxedo tabby.

My brother brought home two cats without permission and one was pregnant from the other one. The surviving kitties from that litter are Yasuke (solid black kitty named after a black samurai) and Biscuits (black & white fluffy with pink nose). Daisy (the mother cat-- who disappeared along with Hatshepsut) also had a 2nd litter. The ones left from that are Gravy Jones (black & white short hair with pink nose), Senator Snugglebum (solid gray) short hair, Lady Sylvanas (dilute tortie named after a World of Warcraft character), and Aminatu (fluffy calico).

I should make an off topic thread with my pets. 12 cats, 2 dogs, & 2 cows.

Today sucked. I left to go pick up a samsclub order and Mom fell down shortly after I left. Hour drive up there only to find that the curbside order wasn't ready even though I got an e-mail saying it was. Couldn't check in with the app. Had bad leg pain and had to limp into the store to ask them to get my order. They initially told me to load it up myself but I explained that my body hates me so the guy loaded it up for me. He said they were short-staffed & he hadn't had anything to eat yet. I went to order takeout but realized the place is closed on Tuesdays. Had to go to Walmart for RX but it wasn't ready. Tried calling Mom but she didn't answer. Messaged my brother to tell him she wasn't answering. He got home before I did and said he found her on the floor & he was trying to get her back up. He got her back into bed before I got home. She was all mad and blamed me for it even though it was her lack of communication about where she wanted her purse that meant it was out of reach. Got her food and half-carried her to the bathroom after. She was able to get back to bed by herself.

I'm exhausted and about to take a nap.

On the HGTV website it lists the Impossible Expectations as episode 13.

Thanks for the info on the cats!

I forgot to mention my youngest cat, Bethesda. Found her outside O'Reilly's. She had a large lump on her side & was a cute little loving kitten. I took her to the vet and confirmed it was not life-threatening but I was worried about her so I kept her. She's a bit of a troll in terms of personality. Swats at other cats, dogs, and people when we walk by. Wants to play. Loves being cuddled. She's lost some weight but for awhile she looked like a butterball turkey. She's white with some gray splotches.

Mom fell 2 more times since my post. Fell in the bathroom on her way to the toilet. My brother was sleeping & didn't hear her calling out for help. I was watching a video so didn't hear at first. Rushed in and got my brother up to help. I braced her feet while my brother got her to her feet. Then I held her up while she got her pants down enough to sit on the toilet. I waited until she was done to help her get back up and help her pull her pants up. I was half carrying her to the bed but she stepped on my slippers. They came off, I tripped and started to fall over and she fell. Landed on a big pile of laundry the dog piled up to help himself get onto the bed. Got my brother again and he helped brace her feet and I helped her shift over to the dog steps and then I got behind her on the bed and pulled her up onto me. Had to keep scooting back and then pulling her until she was fully on the bed. Swung my leg over her head to get out from behind her. Good thing for heated seats in the truck bc otherwise I would have been stuck. Legs were too stiff this morning. My brother got the wedge pillow under her legs and I got her under the covers. He gave her some Mt Dew and I tucked her in and turned off the light for her. She has the phone so she can page me if she needs anything but I'll probably go check on her again. She threw up while she was on the toilet (but there was a trash can next to her). Hoping she will be feeling better before the doctor's appointment on Friday.
