I've lost faith in all of them. Yes, they can be fiery in the speeches and condemnation of those they don't agree with and put on good dog and pony shows, but rarely is it turned into action.
Yeah, that's politics I'm afraid. Always has been and always will be...
But that being said, there has been some recent
bipartisan legislation on junk fees, with the airlines one target. Hotels another.
Change comes slow. It's not that the airlines will eliminate these junk fees, but they'll be forced to be more up front about them.
Then it's the consumer that has to vote with their wallet.
I didn't fly American Airlines for TEN YEARS because of them stranding me in Chicago one summer day. They were rigorously arrogant about them not refunding me anything for what amounted to a 100% screwup on their part, 0% on my part. Thank goodness American Express was on my side and told AA in no uncertain terms, "you did not supply the service, you will not be paid, and [implied] to hell with your contracts of carriage". But since the ticket was booked on Expedia, AA, after being dismissed by American Express, tried to get paid for the flight they didn't give me, from Expedia. Six months after it all was settled, then Expedia comes to me with an invoice for the ticket price! American Express once again to the rescue: "this case was settled. No service, no payment. Period."
So I voted with my wallet, not flying them for ten years. That's a lot of flights on different competing airlines. Their huge loss.
Thus back to Watts: buy another, take the cover, return it as "missing parts". Sad we have to do these things, but that's the only way to get the company to be responsive. Fraud? Maybe, yes. Who cares? Sue me.
