Southern California,
After 9 years, my Watts water heater pump has begun sticking, and the timer is failing to advance. When I rotate the dial, I can hear the impellor on the pump working, and all seems fine, but it has begun to stick on one of the timer tabs. Before spending another $250 and replacing it, has anyone had any luck blowing out the dust, then spraying a lubricant on the dial, to make it rotate better?

I actually used a can of air, blew out the dust, sprayed the dial with PB blaster silicone, and it is running like a top! Half my problem is the dust cover for the dial dropped behind the HWT, and I can't reach it. The cover reinstalled would have solved my issue.

I have customers that leave it on run all the time and have it plugged into a smart plug that they set scheduled with their iPhones. Any on off timer will work that suits your schedule.
That is an excellent idea. Kinda like the on/off timers for Christmas lights?

Can you use some tool or grabber to fetch that dust cover? Sounds necessary and a worthy effort.

This will be on my project list. First on the list is reinstalling a new Samsung flat screen TV with my Black Friday Special Samsung 5.1 soundbar and bass speaker. So far, just temporarily connecting it to my old Samsung TV, the sound is amazing... finally! The new TV gets delivered on Friday.

All these damn projects make me wonder how I took care of everything while I was working. Seems there is not enough hours in the day to complete these projects, even being retired!

A picture is worth a thousand words. Any chance you can put a plastic bag over it and call it a day?

I did the same thing with my Sony. The sound bar and subwoofer were great but the sound didn't come alive until I added the wireless (Bluetooth) rear speakers.

Back to Watts water pumps, I contacted Watts, hoping to get my timer cover replaced. I received a message this morning. Obviously, another company who could care less about public needs.

I am sorry we do not have replacement parts for the HWR pump.

Please let me know if there is anything I can help you with.

Well, the good news is you actually got a reply from a human being! That’s better than most companies out there these days.

Throw caution to the wind. Order one from a major retailer, take the plastic cover off, put it on yours, return it and say it was missing parts. I hate to think one has to do this, but shame on Watts for being such jerks and let them deal with the problems with the return. I can guarantee you they won’t throw the pump out. They will get another plastic cover and they’ll place it back in stock. They just don’t want to do that for you!

Again, I hate to suggest that, but these companies need a lesson in customer service!

I agree. They probably have a thousand covers in their warehouse, and telling me to give them a few bucks for shipping would have made for a happy customer. Them sending this email is akin to,
"Eff you kid, I gots no time to deal with you little people!"

Well, Senior John Kalinowski, eff you!

Though I am not a particular fan of Republican senators in general, I must admit I love watching Josh Hawley in action. Plenty of YouTube videos of him reaming a second a hole for some of these corporations… all of it well deserved! Grab some popcorn and a tall, cold one, and watch the YouTube videos

I've lost faith in all of them. Yes, they can be fiery in the speeches and condemnation of those they don't agree with and put on good dog and pony shows, but rarely is it turned into action.

Yeah, that's politics I'm afraid. Always has been and always will be...
But that being said, there has been some recent bipartisan legislation on junk fees, with the airlines one target. Hotels another.
Change comes slow. It's not that the airlines will eliminate these junk fees, but they'll be forced to be more up front about them. Then it's the consumer that has to vote with their wallet.

I didn't fly American Airlines for TEN YEARS because of them stranding me in Chicago one summer day. They were rigorously arrogant about them not refunding me anything for what amounted to a 100% screwup on their part, 0% on my part. Thank goodness American Express was on my side and told AA in no uncertain terms, "you did not supply the service, you will not be paid, and [implied] to hell with your contracts of carriage". But since the ticket was booked on Expedia, AA, after being dismissed by American Express, tried to get paid for the flight they didn't give me, from Expedia. Six months after it all was settled, then Expedia comes to me with an invoice for the ticket price! American Express once again to the rescue: "this case was settled. No service, no payment. Period."

So I voted with my wallet, not flying them for ten years. That's a lot of flights on different competing airlines. Their huge loss.

Thus back to Watts: buy another, take the cover, return it as "missing parts". Sad we have to do these things, but that's the only way to get the company to be responsive. Fraud? Maybe, yes. Who cares? Sue me.

Reminds me of the old saying "Great minds think alike".

But the question for @havasu is have you given up on recovering the old one that fell off?

Almost given up hope. This is adjacent to the outdoor shower I built earlier in the year, so I'm thinking it may have been tossed while cleaning up the mess from that area. I still need to get into that steel W/H box, pull the insulation, and reach behind the W/H to see if it fell behind it. Problem is that I know there are black widows in that area, and I will have to reach behind it virtually blind. I got bit last year and I had two visits to a hospital and it began eating the flesh on my finger.
