Tub drain and overflow connect underneath joist

DIYer here, looking for some help on connecting my tub drain and overflow. I’ve got a floor joist that runs perpendicular to my tub and want to connect drain and overflow without notching the joist. My question is, is it acceptable to lower the typical connection to below the joist? Hopefully the question is easy enough to understand but I’ve provided my best sketch to help! Thanks in advance!

Drill the joist or cut the joist and install a header. That’s the way my son
