Is there a trick to getting the retainer clip to align? I've got the cartridge seated all the way, and the bottoms of the clip are slightly in front of the holes. I've got my son pushing the 2 legs of the clip back while I try to push the clip down, but it won't go. I've tried unseating the cartridge a hair but then I can't get the clip in at all. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Make sure you have a factory originsl cartridge and make sure a piece e of your old cartridge isn’t left in the valve.

Guide the clip back into the valve like you’ve described you’re doing. I assume this is a moen.

The original was a moen. I got a danco from home depot. Side by side they look the same. I was able to remove all of the original... nothing left in the pipe. Outside the pipe, the clip fits over the danco just like it does for the moen, but it won't connect with those bottom holes when it's inserted into the pipe. If there's no cartridge in the pipe, the clip fits perfectly.

Go buy an original factory moen cartridge.

I got a moen, and it was still difficult to set the training clip, but it finally worked. Next issue is there is a noise when the water is on midway... kind of a hum. If it's on all cold or all hot, there's no sound. There's also no sound if you turn the shower on. What could that be?
