Hi everyone,

So we moved in this place a year ago, and we just found out in the basement laundry-room that the old sink that we removed is connected to an old Cast iron drain pipe, and that the service connection on it is the source of "bad" sewer type of smell.

so my question is how can i replace it ??? it looks like it's too close to floor (bleu arrow) and the connection (RED) it start to be loose and it looks completely rusted.

thanks in advance for all the tips and help

Cut it a couple inches from your red mark toward where the sink use to be.

Go buy a couple these blades for a quality battery sawzall or preferably a corded sawazall.

Then put a fernco rubber cap on it. It’s just a rubber fan with a stainless steel hose clamp.. Measure the pipe and get whatever size is closest.

Leave the pipe/fitting with the blue arrow alone.

thanks a lot for the quick answer.

Will do as suggested.

that is an old cast iron back water valve. Before cutting it out, check to see if the clapper is still working, if it is then it looks like some one opened it up and broke the gasket . All you have to go is replace the gasket and bolts.

It only served the sink that he removed.
