yeahbutt, the hole for the vent is smaller than the hole for the waste.

we do not use the same bit thru out the house.

different size pipes get different size holes.

In your picture you have a 1 1/2" trap arm going through the stud.
Same as the vent.

how are they different?

Looks like those bits hit a few nails.

Most kitchen drain stoppages I clear seem to be at the end of the 2" lateral where the water flow has diminished and the goo has accumulated more over time. Not in the trap.

I had a lady dump a whole bag of uncooked rice into the disposal. made it to the trap arm.

Then she poured liquid drain cleaner in behind it.

Cooked the rice right there in the trap, continuous waste and p-trap.

What do people think about? ...

what are you seeing, to much fall ? water leaving the goo behind

Kitchen lines get a lot of oily residue. Sometimes the whole line is coated with sludge. Cast iron seems to collect it more than plastic.

As the water travels down the drain the further it travels, the ability to carry solids diminishes and thus leaving some lying in the drain.
It's not the solid stuff that plug them up unless they send a bunch down at once causing a traffic jam or pile up. I always tell my customers a little roughage down the disposal will help keep the drain cleaner. Just like eating fiber to help keep your system clean.

I have cut a lot of drains out that have had only a 1/2" hole through the entire line. They don't have or use their disposal.

I did this about an week ago.
The copper horizontal line was about half way filled with GOO. Water was coming out of base of wall. I opened some holes . One just below the horizontal pipe and stuck my hand right up into the pipe. FOUND the source.
From to back to back lavatory sink drains above.
The Horizontal line tied into in to a 3" stack from 2 toilets in the same powder rooms.
This is a picture of the inside of that 2" branch on the 3 x 2 santee and a picture of the inside of the 3" vertical part of the santee. Typical roughness for a vertical cast iron drain.

You can see how the end of the line gets pretty jacked up. And that is just from 2 lavatory powder room sinks
