PVC to Cast leak

Today I finally caved and had a plumber replace my main 4” cast in the basement. On top of being very messy and not cleaning up, they left me with a leak. I assume they caulked this with lead and oakum. Is this the preferred method? Why not just cut it slightly before the wye and use a Fernco fitting? I had a horizontal Fernco fitting on the other end of the cast connecting to a newer PVC cleanout and that never leaked.

Looks like your clean out is cross threaded. Remove, use a nice lubricant such as Rectorseal, and try to get that threaded in a bit straighter and tighter....if that is where the leak is originating from.

If. it is leaking where the pvc connects to the cast.

first...with a knife to scrape with
verify that the connection is lead.
if it is lead, grab a hammer and a dull chisel, pound the lead some more

if it is not lead
remove band, remove the pvc pipe from the cast
go to a plumbing supply house, NOT A HARDWARE STORE
and buy a EZTITE hub gasket ACCEPT no OTHER
EZTITE GOT IT ???
get the smallest can of BLACK SWAN lube and a couple of 1'' paint brushes
schlep that **** back to the house
clean the hub where the pvc was. paint the inside of the hub with the black swan
insert gasket..might have to tap it with a hammer
paint the gasket with black swan
BEVEL the end of the pvc pipe, If you do not, you are in for a fight
paint the pipe with blak swan
push, turn, wiggle up and down, the pipe into the gasket till it bottoms out
opps...bevel it some more not enough
try again.
replace the band

Messy or not, they did not do a proper job, they need to come back.

Unless they were fly-by-night, or illegals paid cash and long gone, or something fishy like that.
