So I have a situation where I accidentally broke a pipe and have fixed it to the best of my ability but have a small leak. This is for a hot water line. I have 3/4" existing CPVC coming from the hot water heater. Where I added a joint it is leaking because I did not know you shouldn't use a PVC cutter on old CPVC. It has a crack that I am going to remove and replace but I am having a hard time because the pipe after the joint I put 1/2" PVC. I really do not want to replace the whole PVC and PEX arrangement that I replaced the broken section with. I am having a very hard time finding a joint that will properly go from 3/4" CPVC to 1/2" PVC. The joint I have on there now was a 1/2" PVC joint because that's what I thought I was connecting to and then I just drilled it out some to fit the 3/4" CPVC so I could get my water up and running. Are there any joints that exist that will go from 3/4" CPVC to 1/2" PVC? I have been to multiple hardware stores and have tried to look online but have not found anything helpful. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I'm honestly not too concerned as far as that goes. It's a rental, and I am the renter not the landlord, that I accidentally broke a pipe in and I am just trying to get it functional and not leaking.

I've been trying to find things online and just cannot seem to locate anything. Do you have a website suggestion or part that you would recommend?

As stated PVC is not rated for hot water. You said there is PEX that you connected to, there are a multitude of adapters to go from CPVC to PEX easily. Get rid of the PVC. Also as you are a tenant you should contact the landlord ASAP to have it fixed properly, otherwise you could be liable for any damages caused.

the whole PVC and PEX arrangement that I replaced the broken section with.
Was the PEX mentioned something you have added or an existing part of the piping?

I fee like this is being over thought. If the pipe that broke is 3/4" CPVC, and you are trying to reconnect two ends of 3/4" CPVC pipes back together why are you not using CPVC for the repair? It's cheap, readily available, and easy to work with.

Can you post any pictures of what has been done and what you're trying to do?

I still highly recommend as a renter you have to let your landlord know at minimum there has been a broken pipe/leak. If you don't and proceed with this jury rigged repair when there is a leak, or it is discovered that an unauthorized repair was made you are fully liable for any damages or consequences.
