Question for plumbers / contractors who install toilets: If a customer has a bidet seat, do you include a new toilet seat when you install a new toilet, eg if the box set doesn’t have a seat, do you purchase one separately for the customer?

I had a plumber replace my toilet with a Toto that he provided and it appears Toto sells their seats separately. Since I had a bidet seat, he put that on and did not give me a new toilet seat.

If I didn’t have a bidet seat and the new box didn’t have one, would he have re-used the old seat from the previous toilet or left me with no seat at all?? I’ll never know lol.

A relative is planning on replacing their toilet and also has a bidet seat. Their bidet is on its last legs and they want the new install to have a regular toilet seat. Wondering if I should tell them to remove the bidet themselves and put in some old seat before the plumber arrives to ensure they have the best chance of getting a new seat.

PS. I paid $1100+tax for the install including Toto toilet. No idea how much relative is paying but I told them not to expect a new seat if they leave the bidet on, even if they pay more than what I did.

Seats are optional in most instance. Rarely do seats ship with a WC, but some rare cases do have seats. A plumber will install your old one, but that is rarely done in my experience just bc, why not start fresh. Toto's soft close seats are on the high side, and don't last forever just like any other brand. other seat mfrs have a range of $ choices.

Thanks! Their plumber/contractor is bringing the toilet so I told them to either pick one that includes the seat (my AS Cadet3 came with one in the box) or buy / order the seat themselves ahead of time to arrive before the install. Or else don't expect a seat to be installed on the new toilet if they aren't re-using the bidet (and they threw out the old seat).

Toilets don't come with seats anymore? It's been a few years since I've changed ours, but I've neve9r seen toilets sold without a seat.
Bought a Toto early 2000s, which came sans a seat. Went to local box store, Menard's, and purchased a cheap, soft-close seat, Mayfair brand. Thought it would last about seven years, but it has been good performer, to-date!

The AS Cadet3 toilets I got from Home Depot had soft-close seats in the box. The Totos appear to not. I guess if I didn't want to re-use my bidet seat with the new Toto, the plumber would leave without attaching a seat lol.

I like those soft
T close seats, but you get used to them... you go somewhere else that doesn't have them and you put the seat down, you just give it a pull and let go...Wham, crash... ooops.

When we go on vacation, that is the one noise I dread. That distinct sound of a toilet seat slamming down.

Nothing like a little undesired attention!
BTDT! (been there, done that)
