Hello! I came across this site while trying to find a solution to changing out the tub/shower trim in an older home. I am not a plumber, nor do I have any experience in plumbing so I know I probably don't belong on this site but I'm just a gal desperately trying to spruce up an old home, so any advice is appreciated!

The current hardware is Delta (probably circa 1985), and the plumber I called said I would need something to fit to what is already there if we don't want to open up the wall and completely change everything behind the scenes. I went to a local shop and was informed that Delta no longer makes the 2-handle trim anymore, only a single handle. I've attached some images. I just need the two handles to fit on here, as the other pieces shouldn't be an issue I was told. Anyone have any suggestions or advice?

Thanks in advance,
Natalie

Hi! Thank you for your response! I appreciate you taking the time to look into this for me. I didn’t think I’d get any response at all so this is lovely.

I probably should have mentioned in my original post that I am wanting to swap them to something more modern. I’ve updated literally everything else cosmetically in the house - I mean everything - except the tubs/showers and their hardware. Really looking for something in black but I know that is probably asking a lot. Although I’m not opposed to a good spray paint if need be!

But I’m trying to stay away from the acrylic knobs. This tub with the blue behind the plates will need to be re-coated anyway, as it is all scratched up, so not worried about not being able to cover that up but I appreciate you keeping that in mind!

Any suggestions for an all metal piece? Or even one with porcelain handle.

If the stem is in the shape of a (D) you maybe in luck there are plastic handles that may work
Hi! Thank you so much for your response! The stem is in the shape of a D - round with one flat side. Can you possibly send a link for what you have in mind? I’ve been scouring the internet every free chance I get but haven’t had much luck. I see someone on Amazon that sells trim compatible with Delta - Plumb USA - but I’m a hesitant to order. Very mixed reviews on their listings🥴

You’d be better off replacing the entire faucet.

But you can buy various pieces and paint them any color you want. The factory colors for the escutcheons and tubes will be chrome.

You can buy metal handles in several finishes but not in black. So you may as well buy chrome handles and paint them.

But as I’ve said, you’d be better off to replace the entire faucet.

If your trying to update old fixtures you definitely won't find many options. 10-15 years in the plumbing world then you'll have a harder time to find parts. Can't be picky miss. Best bet is replace the fixture with a new one and the possibilities are endless. A good plumber should be around 900-2000.00. Budget wisely

Thank you all for your responses. I agree, the best thing would be to just change the whole thing but there's just not enough budget left after remodeling the rest of the house. But I woke up with a new mindset - be grateful for what you've got and don't sweat the small stuff, and ultimately shower hardware is pretty small stuff in the grand scheme of things. Will order the replacement kit from Ace and see if I can paint the chrome parts to black to match the other pieces I already purchased. And if not, no big deal, we'll just stick with the chrome and acrylic. Thank you all again for being so kind and willing to help a complete stranger, restores my faith in humanity a bit :).
