Graphite vs Teflon Packing

I have to add packing to a leaking Packing Nut. Is Graphite Packing preferable to Teflon Packing or vice versa or no difference?

This is for a Stop and Waste Valve that controls the flow to an outdoor spigot. Still use an o-ring?

Yes try slipping one on the putting the big nut back on, home Depot or lowes may have a variety of o-rings, they also have graphite sleeves that slide over the stems also I've used them too

Can't speak to quality, but Harbor Freight carries boxes of 200+ assorted Nitrile O-rings for under $6 - iirc.

I have a wall mounted hose reel. It began leaking so I called the company to get a replacement union. They wanted $30 plus shipping. Since i also have an assorted O ring box that I paid $1.99 at Harbor Freight 20 years ago, I simply replaced two O rings from this assortment, and the leak is gone.
