Mr. David, You are so right. YOu have the picture of the unit. Too bad I spent a month off an on figuring this out ant figured it out practically minutes before you posted the answer!!

just broke the thing off. Seems really stupid to me. Would drive an apartment renter crazy!!!!!!!! Probably even more than me, since I rarely used that toilet.

I have put a few of these in. They are a bugaboo to get set correctly. Its a lot of extra time on just a filler valve. They do what they are suppose to when they are set correctly.
 
How could you set it up "correctly". That little metal barb on the "trigger" just digs in so very very well. It digs in, you flush, and it immediately digs back in before the water level has a chance to drop the tiniest fraction so as to start the water flowing. If you hold the flush level for an additional second then the float drops before the bard digs in to stop the fall of the float.

If you have a quick answer for my education great, otherwise I have it working so it is of no never mind. Just curious which is my nature.
 
I have never installed one. Only replaced them with ones that don't have that stupid lock. Glad you got it fixed.
