I’m converting a two drain kitchen sink to one drain. I’m wondering if I can get rid of the left drain p trap and cap it, and move the garbage disposal to the middle and use that P trap.

Yes you can, no problem.
Thank you. One more question, is it recommended to connect the dishwasher hose straight to the garbage disposal? My previous one went this deal.

I don’t use air gaps. I use the high loop method. Google it.

If you have room, install a dishwasher tee after the disposal and before the P- trap. Connect the dishwasher to this tee.

This will prevent the dishwasher from draining through the disposal shortening the disposals life.

Just did. Much better way. Thank you!

I always thought connecting the dishwasher discharge to the garbage disposal would tend to clean the garbage disposal and make it last longer.

Just curious, why do you think doing that would shorten a disposal's life?

It doesn’t clean the disposal, in fact it’ll make the disposal stink because it strains bit of food out that stay in the disposal until it’s turned on and washed out.

Food and most dishwasher soap is acidic so the more that’s ran through the disposal the more wear it’s getting.

Some are plain steel others are stainless and last longer but it still causes them to stink.

My wife basically washes the dishes before she puts them in the dishwasher, LOL. But what you said makes good sense. Thanks!

Loop the hose up to the bottom of the cabinet top and secure it, then it’ll be complete.

Don't forget to plug the old hose connection to your garbage disposal.

Some videos indicate just using a rubber stopper. But I have used a rubber stopper to plug the connection as deep as possible to minimize a place where wastes can collect, and then a coolant bypass cap and hose clamp over the hose nipple connection. The rubber stopper is available at any hardware or big box store, and the coolant bypass cap and the hose clamp are available at any automotive parts store.

Cleaning the inside of the connection nipple well and using super glue on it and the rubber stopper would probably be acceptable. It's just the engineer in me that wants a belt and suspenders, LOL.

Do you have a picture of a rubber stopper? I ordered this from Amazon because I couldn’t find any at Ace or HD. It’s a tad bit too big though.
