Will a water softener work for corrosive problems that seems to be causing pin hole leaks in copper pipe? It's a new house about 6 years old on city water but at the end of the main water run, (dead end street) and water is highly corrosive. I have just sent in a water sample to see how bad the problem is.

Thank you!

Two things that will cause the pin holes. Chlorine and a low PH. City water should have a neutral PH, but that's not to say they all do.

Water softeners remove calcium and magnesium. Carbon removes chlorine. If you have what is called Chloramine, that means you also have ammonia in your water. It takes a special carbon to remove that.

I'm curious if the pin-hole leaks are on the pipes or at the fitting connections. Also, what do you mean by "highly corrosive"? Did you test the ph and, if so, what were the results?
