Hello-
May seem like a silliy question but here it goes...

My house was built in 1994. I purchased it in 2004. There are three large drains in basement the floor. There is also a fourth pipe sticking out of the floor about 2ft that has been plugged with a cap since I moved in. It's smaller in diameter...about 1.5". The others are larger, like 4", but I'm guessing. They are standard size floor drains whatever size that is.

I added an adapter to one of the floor drains so that I can drain a small sink in a bar that I installed several years go. When the sink is not used, it is plugged.

The other two floor drains just have graits over them. Actually one of the drains is used by my furnace...condensate from the air conditioner as well as run off from the humidifier drain there.

My question is...where do these drains most likely go? What are the possibilities? Should I plug them?

I also have a sump pit with pump. When I pour water down the floor drains of the basement...it does NOT drain into the sump pit. I have tested that with a hose and many gallons of water.

Since we have recently had catastrophic flooding here in the metro Detroit area, due to ~6" of rain in about 12 hours, ...I have been thinking about my drains more and what I should be doing with them. Luckily we had no issues during or after the storm.

Thanks,

Your floor drain is more than likely tied into the main house drain (sewer). The other pipes coming out the floor sounds like a basement bath rough-in. Post some photos so we can see your setup.
