I feel old and weak. Yesterday I had an extended battery pack for a UPS I purchased off eBay delivered by FedEX. The young woman refused any assistance that I had offered to help her put it in the garage. She shouldered the entire 120 pound box over her left shoulder and set it gently on the garage floor without breaking a sweat. It took me over an hour just to remove each of the two 50 pound battery packs so I could get the thing indoors!

Once again, I feel old and weak…..
Right there with you, needed to change out a charcole water filter.. 25 pounds of charcole, in a 5 foot tank. You think I could pick that thing up, 5 years ago, throw that over my shoulder and just shake it out. Now, had to hold it resting on the side of a wagon while my wife sprayed it out. I told her next time we're just buying a new tank, heck with this.

Why would you eliminate the department of education? I have grandkids, the most important thing for this country to remain competitive is education.
The DOE was created by Carter, the 2nd worst President of the US. It serves no useful purpose other than to suck our taxes and funnel it to teacher's unions. If you are seriously interested in your grandchildren's education and your great grandchildren, you need to teach their parents that THEY are responsible, not the government.

The problem is, some people get their "news" from Fox News, News Break, etc. That explains the discrepancy. Yes, Elon Musk is going to cut 2 Trillion dollars off the federal budget--he said so. No way to do that without putting hundreds of thousands of employees on the street without a job...

Fasten your seat belt! Remember on day one (probably more likely, day two), millions and millions will be rounded up and deported, and the war in Ukraine will end with one phone call to Putin. It must be true, right?

Anyone believing that, give a call. I have a nice bridge for sale in NYC. Built solid, connects Manhattan to Brooklyn. Good neighborhoods on either end...

Oh stop with the fake news tripe. You are making yourself look less intelligent. Do you REALLY want to go there? After all the lies of how lively and intelligent Biden is? Was? Seriously? Elon Musk fired 80% of Twitter and no one noticed. I spent 4 hours on the phone with an IRS agent with a severe Indian accent trying to get data that she could simply not comprehend.

But it get's better. The VA years ago had a scandal - seems the upper management had two spreadsheets. One for their bonuses, the other for actual patient care. In my world, that would be fraud, and I would be in jail. While veterans died, these SOBs got bonuses. A whistleblower called them out. No one was fired, no one went to jail, no one had to give their bonuses back. So, yEAH, gut the federal government.

My father once worked for the DOE as the administrator for the guaranteed student loan program. Probably the only reason that I paid my student loan back in full and on time is because no son of his would ever welch on his obligations like so many entitled kids today do.

Agreed, the Department of Education must go!

Havasu, Is there at least a fake opening on the front of the underwear? Maybe its like pockets that are sewn shut on women's clothes. Might be able to open them with a seam ripper.

I'm nice and comfy but had some really bad storms. Landline is out. Road flooded but water came back down again. Barely made it home the other night bc of the flooding.

Went to the store, picked up mail, dropped by friend's house to see him briefly and hold the kittens (and dropped off a handle for the toilet jack bc he lost the other one-- well, his mom probably stole it), realized we forgot stuff from the store so went back, saw a vehicle in town I'd been wanting to get pics of and finally saw it parked, grabbed takeout from a local place, got home and ate. Currently sitting with Rupert on my lap.

This is the car I've been wanting to photograph. The mini car it tows is adorable. I wonder if it's a storage compartment thingy or just decorative.

Oh, Princess came in wet last night so she has figured out how to use the pet door.

Trust me, there is absolutely no opening. Many men's sport underwear also don't have an opening. If I went to the French Rivera, I guess I'm ready.

I forgot to mention that yesterday my brakes started to go out on me. I came to a stop, heard a thump and felt a thud like something in the back shifting and slamming. No vehicles behind me so it wasn't an impact. Then it popped when I took my foot off the brake. When I went to brake again, nothing happened. I furiously pumped the brake until it worked. Brakes started working again and had more resistance but were not as responsive on the drive home. They were ok on the drive in to the shop this morning but made popping sounds when I backed up. I described it and they checked it out: Problem 1: the front passenger tire had a nut crossthreaded and stud was broken. Problem 2: Rotator was jammed causing the brake to never fully release. Problem 3. Brake pad was gone and caliper was destroyed. Problem 4: Wheelbearing on front driver tire was about to fall off AGAIN and the pad on that side needed to be replaced. I just had all brake pads replaced in August. Need to figure out why the wheelbearing keeps popping out. Friend thinks K-frame might be slightly bent. But I might need a whole wheel hub assembly replaced if it keeps going out. Struts are close to needing to be replaced but are not totally gone. Problem 5: tires are so bald the wires are starting to show.

So, getting the local shop to address the brakes and wheelbearing. Getting tires at Walmart bc they are less expensive. $124/tire vs over $200 per tire. Those should come in Friday. $72 for installation with almost $60 tax. Bleh. I'll be keeping the one newer tire as a spare. Will have to wait longer on getting a new used truck though.

@Zanne, does your state have mandatory annual vehicle safety inspections before a car can be tagged and driven, those inspections saved my bacon a couple of time!
We get an inspections ticker for a year for $10 and 2 years for $20. They check to see if your lights are working. Headlights, tail lights/brake lights, and blinkers. Last inspection one of my headlights was out but I promised to get it fixed asap so I passed. I went and got a new bulb minutes later. There's a joke about how Louisiana requires an inspection to make sure vehicles are fit to drive on roads that are NOT fit for vehicles to drive on.

The tire shop only charged $50 labor. VSA and ABS errors still popping up and it's still making some sounds but it could be from the plastic hanging down. I need to take it to a dealership (not the one I used before) to get it checked out. It was braking just fine though. Came out to about $394 so made it under $400. I'm so glad the shop is nice about things and there have been times they diagnosed things or even fixed stuff without charging me.

I found out Rupert is the one who has been dragging the waterer into the middle of the floor. Cat has derp strength. My brother picked him up and held him on his back and all the cat did was lick his own belly/chest and didn't seem to care. LOL.

I ordered new tires and they should be coming in Friday. I scheduled an appointment to have them put on. The ones I wanted before sold out. These ones were on sale and are still good. Cost over $600 between the tires, installation fees, and tax.

In Virginia they check every safety-related item on your vehicle including brake shoe or pad friction material remaining, exhaust system, tire tread depth (they use a calibrated Lincoln Head penny to determine that), horn, etc. It's a pain in the ass but at least it keeps most of the unsafe cars off the road. I haven't been able to find a place or cultivate a relationship with an inspection station to pass something marginally defective. We also have to get tail pipe emission checks "anally" as well.

$600 for four tires is pretty sweet! That would buy only two tires to fit our Jeep. I wish I didn't feel the need to own a car!
