Hi plumbers and wannabes!
I have an issue with a very loud banging noise when the upstairs master toilet is flushed. You can hear the flush, the water coming down the drain and then, when it turns to come down the vertical drain pipe or when it turns to go into the main stack below there is a loud bang. Not a water hammer sound but rather like the abs pipe is hitting something.
I am currently remodeling our main floor powder room and have everything open so it would be a good time to get this issue fixed if it can be fixed.
I have include a photo to show my situation. I suspect the drain pipe in the wall coming from upstairs. The fact that they had to cut out the sole plate so much also raises some flags as does the turn to get it to the stack which is directly below the toilet drain. The drain pipe is right up on the drywall. There is a Y-connection directly below the toilet pipe.
