I walked into my father's home yesterday (unoccupied at the moment, hadn't been there for over a month) and the carpets and floors were wet in half of the house. There is no water pressure. The A/C was running but not cooling (left it set on 80). No evidence of busted water heater or pipe. Plumber told me on the phone the A/C could have backed up, overflowed, and somehow cut water pressure? Can't get an expert out there yet. Can the A/C mess the plumbing up like that? I turned it off, opened the windows. Need to go back, pull carpets, etc., and get a plumber and A/C guy out there.

Any ideas?

Oh Yeah---years ago he had some pipes break under the slab and had tunnels dug, and all redone. Could be a recurrence?

Unfortunately, without looking at any and every possibility, it would all be a guess. My only advice is to remove the carpet and drywall (if needed) immediately to prevent mold from getting any worse and the house will be a tear down and total loss.

I can't think of any way that the A/C could cause a loss of water pressure.

Check the water meter to see if the indicator is spinning, indicating an underground leak.

Resolution--Plumber found a small leak in a pipe that was wedged between a kitchen cabinet and a backroom bathtub. It was putting out a fine line of spray--just enough to wet all the floors and a couple of inches of wall in 3/4 of the house.

It's been repaired, but still need to fix up the house.

Thanks!

Sorry to here that. It is always best to turn the water off if the home will be vacant for a extended period of time. I do it with my own home when we take a weeks vacation.
