LAst evening I had a very strange occurrence from an old drain in the basement. This drain is right below the kitchen and in an outside wall. It used to go to the kitchen sink but I had cut it off prob 35 years ago when I remodeled my kitchen and brought the new drain directly down through the floor in the cabinet.

So last evening my wife heard a leak in the basement and called me down. There was a good size trickle of water coming out of this old drain. No I have to say that this drain would still be connected to a vent stack. Judging from the amount of water on the floor, perhaps 2 gallons came out of the old drain before it quit on itself.

So....where could this have come from? No other water supply in the house was being used at this time. This has never happened before. Now we are just coming out of a vey bad deep freeze here in Pa like so many others. Could there have been a ice block and some sort of condensation build above the ice and ice finally thawed and allowed water to come down the drain?

I don't think there is a problem with the stack as all drains connected to it drain just fine. Thanks
