On city water with hard water (~15 grains) and going to install a water softener. I’d like to get a carbon filter too for a couple of reasons: i) extend the life of the resin in the softener and ii) remove the awful chlorine odor of the tap water. My questions are as follows:
1. What are your thoughts on a whole house carbon filter? Are the backwashing units far superior to the non-backwashing units?
2. Can a backwash unit share the same drain as the water softener?
3. We are somewhat limited on space due to the dumb design of the builder so I may have to go with a “spin-on” wall-mount carbon filter. Any thoughts on brands/models? Replacement interval?
Thank you in advance for your help!!
