Thank you BlueSkyHigh.

The two who only install Bradford White tried to tell me the water heaters from Home Depot are not good quality, especially the brand name Rheem. However I found a third plumber, he only installs Rheem. Between the two brand names, Is one really better than the other? Could someone advise? Thanks.

There are several types of Rheem. The one that HD sells is not the better commercial, heavier duty type. Twowhack can explain more. It has to do with the gas valve. I went for a Bradford White and never looked back.

“Thank you for contacting Rheem. The difference between the Professional series and the Performance series is simply where they are sold through. The Performance line is carried by Home Depot, for which we provide them with an exclusive model number. The Professional line is sold through the local plumbing supply companies to the contractors that install them for customers, again with exclusive model numbers. The quality of the tank that stores the water, regardless the warranty period, are all the same - meaning even the 6-year warrantied water heaters have the potential to last as long as the 12-year models.

Minor component parts may differ somewhat between the Professional and Performance models and the warranties differ, however these are essentially the only differences between the product sold through Home Depot and the product sold through your local suppliers. Whichever model you choose will offer the same quality and performance.

If you have any further questions, please contact us via email at [email protected], or by phone at 800-432-8373. Our Technical Support Team is available Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST.”

Bottom line is it probably doesn’t matter…but others may have differing opinions.
