I’m going to suggest you turn the control knob to off and shut the gas off to the heater at its gas shut off valve.

Then call the manufacturer and give them the model number and serial number of your unit.

It looks like that may be installed in a closet within a bathroom. That’s illegal.

I suggest having the gas heater replaced with an electric model.

Yes, that’s a symptom but I believe that heaters installed in a bathroom closet, that would be illegal every place I’ve worked.

So I have a problem with the install even if it was working as intended.

The burner cover where the gas tube goes in looks wierd too, like it's been modified somehow.

I agree, flame shouldn’t shoot out of a sealed burner system like that.

Looks like the burner tube is just hanging out and not sealed. Did you install this tank yourself?
