I am planning to connect the hot water outlet from the domestic hot water coil in the boiler directly to the cold water supply side of an electric water heater. My question is if this is a typical plumbing method when you're adding a water heater to supplement the boiler domestic hot water source?

Thanks

The only problem with it is domestic coils are notorious for becoming plugged. Even if they don't they are 1/2" and that will restrict the volume of hot water. You will be far better off to pipe the heater direct. The savings you would get by running it through the coil will be very little.

John,

Thanks for this info. I will now be installing the water heater direct.
