My water heater recently turned off. After trying to re-light it. It gave me a code for gas control valve.
someone I work with is close with a plumber that I've talked to a few times so I contacted him and sent him pictures. It was a Honeywell model that he said was prone to fail. And also told me my water heater was out of warranty.
After this my wife remember that we had some kind of home insurance. So we contacted them. And they sent a plumber out. He was here 15 min and said he got it working but it might stop if it does don't touch it and give him a call. I went down to look at it and it's set to "very hot". I texted the friend plumber and asked if this was some kind of work around. He said he couldn't comment. But he could say anything over 120 is a liability. And with a 6 year old in the house it's a bad idea. Told me to call him back.
Is anyone in the trade familiar with what the plumber changed? Can I change the temp?

Lower the temp to what you feel is safe. Typically 125 or so. Put it back where it was.

If you can’t adjust the temp then it’s still not working……..call the warranty people back.

Sounds like the guy just relit the heater and fired it up.

If it shuts off again, don’t relight it. Then the device guy would need to test/trouble shoot to find the issue or issues.
