Hello -

I received the inspection report on a house that I am about to make an offer on. I have every intention of hiring a plumber to come out to more throughly review the issue if my offer gets accepted but would like your opinion on how complicated (or uncomplicated) the repair is and what the average ball park would be for this project since it'll affect my offer price:

1) When the house was changed over to copper piping, the plumber that installed it basically left the old pipes in the crawl space. See attached picture.
2) There are rusty areas on the exterior of the waste lines. It is not
possible to tell when but they will need replacing in the future as they continue to wear out such as at the kitchen sink drain.

How difficult is this job and what do you think it would cost? I plan on having a plumber come out and run a camera through the pipes. This is for the purposes of the initial offer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The old galvanized should not pose a problem, but with a sawzall it can be removed within a hour. As far as pricing it's always good to get several quotes by a contractor in your area due to pricing are not the same across the country. I can't say how difficult the drain job will be by the photos, seeing it in person really shows the big picture.
