Hello, new guy here, just a DIY'er

In the pic the drain on the left is coming from the shower which is raised off the floor about 6" i guess, the drain on the right is from the washer, then they come together in a rather odd way and form a single drain that goes to a black plastic elbow that goes into the slab.

When the washer drains water rises up into the shower drain but luckily doesn't overflow. But then my shower is always dirty with lint.

Is it possible for both these to drain out that same black elbow without water rising into my shower? Do I need a seperate drain?

Thanks!

There are many things wrong with that setup. Not sure were to start.
1- The line should be 2" not 1-1/2"
2- Not that it matters because of the other problems. But the first ell after the black one which is ABS is not a drainage fitting the turn is to sharp. It's a water line fitting.
3- There is no vent.
Before any thing can be done to correct it you need to find a larger line to connect to,
Without that you done before you start.

ok, can that black ell drain handle just a shower? Or is it just plain useless? If it can handle the shower alone I can make that happen. Then the washer drain is replaced with 2" and goes to a different drain.

It will work but by code it should be 2". There is also no vent on that line. The other thing that I question, is there a trap on the shower? If there is you can use a AAV for the vent. Do you have any idea what the ABS ell connects to?

I knew I was going to need some professional help. The only thing that will be left in that pic is the floor and the block wall, I'm ripping it all out. I want a tub and a separate shower. A drain or drains will probably have to be jackhammered. I'm just going to hire someone to do everything but the ripping. Yeah, it's gonna be expensive.
Your post let me know that I need more professional help than I thought, lol.

Thanks
