I have a house with a basement and crawlspace... the washer/hot water, water softener and utility sink are in the basement.

I have noticed I get a loud steady vibrating sound when I turn on any water in the house. Well today I did some investigating trying to find the vibration... cant really pin out it exactly but seems to be initiated from the first 10 feet from the water line coming in underneath the crawlspace.

Doing alittle research, I started to bleed the house and then realized the dishwasher was on, so had to cut that short (opps)...lol

Anyways, what I did notice, is with a heavy load of water demand, the noise goes away. At the moment, I have one sprinkler going outside and is noisy... if I turn on another water source in the house (toilet or sink), the noise goes away.

Any possibilities besides bleeding that may cause this?

Thanks for any advice.

Eric

Thanks for the reply phishfood. I want to say "no". Coming off the main line is shut-off valve and a check valve. Would it be located anywhere else?

Doing some more research, I think I know where you are heading. I did read that too much pressure will cause the noise... which kind of makes sense that when you put more demand on the system it goes away.

Thanks again

There should be no reason for a check valve. If there is one that may be the cause of your vibration. Are you sure it's not a PRV?

John

Thanks John... I will double check this evening, but pretty positive it was a check valve. If it happened to be a PRV it was not adjustable by any means... it was not bell shaped with adjuster like I have seen in some pics..

more to follow.. thanks
