I had a new roof installed. During the installation I had a water leak assume from the P trap connections under master bath sink. During the install we were using all of the usual water sources in our house, bathroom, washer, dishwasher.

I am trying to figure out if the roofers temporally cover a vent could it cause a leak?

I understand there is both positive and negative pressure in the sewer pipe and the the vents purpose to neutralize that pressure.

Never had a leak in the house water or sewer lines

Nothing has leaked since the day of the roof installation.
Source was definitely under the bathroom sink.
Don't know if it was fresh water or sewer water but was clean.
Water meter was checked with all house water off.
All drains, toilets run great.
No gas smells gurgling drains.
My basement is open and have checked both water and sewage pipes for dampness and they are bone dry now.
It seems it was a one time occurrence.
Unfortunately we have some hardwood floor damage on the other side of the sink wall.
If I had to speculate I'd say maybe a gallon of water was involved.

So questions are if one of the roofers covered the roof vent with something temporarily and we were running water , taking a shower, using the sink , washing clothes whatever... while the vent was covered could positive pressure force water out of that PTrap or somewhere under the sink? Or could it have just backed up to that point with nothing draining? That sink would most likely be the first place for a leak inside the house relative to the outside of the house.

Again no further leaks since that day.

And of course if that is not a possible cause any other ideas since obviously don't want this to reoccur?

I have absolutely no idea. That is very odd. Are you going to mention it to the roofers? If they did something that caused the damage, they might be liable. But that depends on whether or not you can prove that it was their fault...

Did it rain at all while the roof was being worked on?

This really is a puzzle to me. I hope one of the experts can answer.
