I'm working on a project with a client and my go to guy is on vacation. I'm hoping to get some help here. My client is remodeling their bathroom, and they would like to put the controls on a wall outside of the shower, but they will need a diverter on the inside to operate the shower head and handheld either separately or together. I was thinking of a 1-function thermostatic valve on the outside wall and lead that to a 3-function diverter on the wall with the showerhead and handheld. Will that work? I'm definitely NOT an artist, but hopefully this drawing may clear up my question.

In my opinion it would work, a little odd but doable. Routing the water lines is probably the toughest part.

Sure you can mount valves and run piping like you’re stating. Can’t say I’d do it.

Doesn't make much sense to me to have the valve outside, if it ever failed it would leak out side of the area that designed to be wet
Agreed, but that's the design they're looking for. They want to turn on the water without getting wet.

It's still in the shower, just on the opposite wall from the fixtures. 🤷‍♀️

I work in the presidents condo for our university it's water works fixtures from over seas, we set the temp leave the valve on,they just reach in an turn the diverter to the hand held shower on the opposite wall, there are plumbed in check valves so there is no hot/cold water cross over
