Trying to understand water filtration on my system

Good morning,

We recently bought a house on a well. I'm trying to understand the water filtration system that was installed prior to the purchase.

Water comes in from the well into a T. There is a pressure tank on one side, and the other has a water softener resin tank. From the resin tank it passes through a whole home water filter then into another resin tank. After is a UV light and then the water goes to the house.

There is a salt tank that connects to the second resin tank, but not the first resin tank.

I guess I'm trying to figure out why there are 2 resin tanks, and how the first one regenerates without being hooked to the salt container.

I believe I found my answer. After some research the first tank appears to be a backwashing iron filter, hence the reason it is not connected to the brine tank.
