towels are like sandpaper

.. I have a front load Lg washer and dryer ... my towels are coming out of the dryer very rough like sandpaper.. I usually dont use fabric softner but tried a little but it did not help... what is going on here.. I have tried washing in cold and hot and warm water does not make a difference . other clothes are ok . please help . thanks

Get your water tested and post the results. Is this something that just happened or has it always come out of the dryer rough? How much fabric softener do you consider "a little"?

There's a fine line when adding fabric softener to a towel load. Too little- rough towels. Too much- non absorbent towels.
