Hello,

Requesting any assistance. I have a leak where the drain pipe and ptrap meet and I don’t know how to correct it. Any assistance is much appreciated!

Normally when water pools there like that it is a leak from the pop up assembly where it attaches to the sink, or from the pop up threads. I would check there first. The orange rubber reducing gasket looks like it may be installed upside down. The bevel should be facing the u bend. It also looks like you have an S trap which should be addressed also.

Hey so I’ve checked the pop up assembly several times and it’s bone dry. I’ve tried several water tests by filling up the sink to see if it leaks and it doesn’t. The rubber reducing gasket is upside down because I tried everything under the sun and it has all failed so I figured why not try it the opposite way to see if it would help. At this point I’m tempted to use silicone or something to try and seal the leak.

Get another rubber gasket in case that ones no good and re-install it.... wait what did you do when you installed it? Just zoomed in and it looks like you put the washer after the nut??? How is that even possible, but washer goes in between plastic nuts not on top of it wont work like that if my eyes are seeing right. Looks like you need to watch some plumbing videos or give us more to go on.

So my father in law reworked the pipes because he agreed the s trap was no good. However we still have water coming from the area circled. Tested it several times and it’s not coming from the pop up assembly. Neither one of us can figure out what is causing the water to leak.

In your original picture, that joint would have remained full of water as the trap arm was higher than that joint. In the repair picture where you say the S-trap was removed, a longer tailpiece was installed. Is the drain line now lower than that joint? As the joint taht is leaking is at the tailpiece attached to the sink Have you inspected the tailpiece attached to the sink to see if there are any rough spots or cracks? I do assume the gasket on the tailpiece extension is a new one.

If you dry all the water off and drain a full sink at once, can you see where the water is coming out from? If it is from the tailpiece has the tailpiece nut and washer been tightened tighter than you think is necessary? I've had to crank em really tight before. Maybe there a seam on the pop up plastic?
