The tub shoe keeps leaking a drop onto sheetrock below ?

my tub shoe on the second floor keeps a small drip no matter how how much it's tightened
and the drain/straineris extremely hard to tighten even before it his bottom any Ideas/solutions
will go to use.Thank you

It was cross-threaded! I had to go across town for a thin-wall replacement shoe, (shoe only) and its dry but like Twowaxhack said I am ordering brass, because I'm not taking a chance with the sheetrock again.
