I use Rectorseal #5. As a matter of fact, I despise Teflon tape for anything, except the quick release fittings for my air tools.

Thanks for your replies. We had a leaky buildup under the pressure of the disposal and dishwasher and thought teflon tape wasn't the thing to use.

This product can be used for all metal pipe threads and PVC threads?

SPEARS has their own product for PVC threads but is difficult to find.

The threads on tubular connections do not seal the joints from leakage. The tapered nylon washer ( type usually provided with the plastic and brass) is what seal the joint with the exception of the ground joint on the ell and J union of the p-trap. You should not have to use any paste or tape to seal these.

On the schedule 40 type p-traps I do put a little Teflon paste on the threads of the union to provide a little lubrication for easier assembly and dis-assembly.

One of these days you guys are going to take me out back and beat me... :(

I mis-read the origional post. I meant the sealer, can it be used on pressure copper, brass and PVC fittings. Is it a one all sealer (other than gas)?

I also hear it works well as a stool softener for old folks, like Phish!

* Disclaimer....Kids, don't try this without parental supervision! And by the way, I am only kidding!

:D

RECTUMSEAL#5 (Not to be confused with LOVE POTION #9)

I HAVE DONE IT AGAIN... :(

I meant to ask if this product is meant to also be used with threaded PVC fittings/nipples. I am working with SPEARS SCH 80 PVC and they say to use their sealer/lubricant (BLUE 75 SEALANT) but it is hard to find.

I use Slic-Tite for PVC. It's the oil base in some paste sealants that is bad for PVC/ABS fittings. Manufactures of a product have a tendency to recommend other products to use on their prducts but doesn't mean that has to be the one used.

Orange??

I have seen White ( common ) pink ( thicker and for heating applications, i never use white only this ) Blue ( all perpose, even for gas.. more costly but awesome ) and Yellow ( used and aproved for gas )

what is this orange rated for ?

these tubular systems are made to seal themselves when you use the slip rings. if you have to use teflon tape something is wrong or backwards. teflon is not the answer to every thing
